On May 21st, 1937, I was born in Bottineau, ND to Virginia and Edward Manning. While growing up in Bottineau, my parents worked hard to support us. My mom made me ride that damn train to a catholic school where my “naughty boy” habits were well taken care of by the sisters. I later attended Bottineau High School and graduated in 1956. I then joined the Army National Guard and while working at the Minot Airforce base I was brought to a farm in Upham. That’s when I saw this special lady sitting on a milk pail with a hole in her pants, Gloria Herman, wow…. She later became the love of my life, and we were married Nov 8, 1959. I received an Honorable discharge from the military and began farming and milking cows on the same farm where Gloria was raised. Enjoyed my horse Smokie and my beloved blue heeler cattle dog Snowball. We had two children, Mark and Denise. I served on many boards in the Upham area. I loved participating in local activities at Upham school and little deep club where I loved dancing and yelling “ye haw”. Became lifelong friends to Clifford Miller and family. Cliff passed away at an early age and life was never the same for me. Gloria was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease, with young children at home, I was very thankful for neighbor’s support taking care of our two children while she was away in the hospitals over the years, especially the Thompson and Miller families. I was involved in a tractor accident, I was burned, there was amazing support from local farmers to harvest my crops that year. Mark and Denise both married, blessing us with 6 Grandchildren, We later sold the farm and eventually settled in Warroad, MN where we managed apartments, I also worked full time at Marvin Windows. I retired from Marvin Windows after several years of employment. I enjoyed gardening and the fruit trees when we lived in Badger. Growing older we moved to Roseau, I then lost the love of my life after she told me to let the wonderful people at Roseau LifeCare Manor take care of me. I enjoyed my time there. It was such a wonderful staff and the visits from family and friends and of course the two favorite dogs, Ivy and Sally. I am proceeded in death by my wife Gloria, parents Virginia and Edward Manning, brother Wayne, grandparents Fred and Marie Chaussee and mother and father-in-law Clarence and Bernice Herman and son-in-law Daniel Brandt. I am survived by son Mark (Patty), daughter Denise (Shayne) Isane, grandchildren, Matthew (Anna), Robert (RaeAnn), Michael, Katie, Devyn (Shena) and Danielle (Adam), and great Grandchildren, Lexie, Micah, Tristan, Cooper, Dylan, Levi, Cayden, Lila, Hewitt, Laney, JoJo, Asher and Layla. I am now in a better place with Jesus, my wife and all my friends. Remember……” IF you can’t be good, be careful, and if you can’t be careful, don’t name it after me” God Bless.
